Mr. Lyons has been a practicing attorney in Atlanta since 1970, conducting a general civil practice. He has experience in representing individuals and insurers in personal injury and property damage cases, including settlement negotiations and trial of cases. He has extensive experience in representing clients in domestic relations cases, including the settlement and trial of cases involving divorce, child custody, modifications of divorce decrees, and family violence. He has represented a number of small businesses, serving as general counsel and representing them in the settlement and trial of business litigation in state and federal courts. In 1994 Mr. Lyons began service as the Executive Director of a large nonprofit organization operating in 50 countries. Later he served as President of a foundation associated with that organization and as general counsel. Mr. Lyons has broad experience in representing clients in domestic relations matters, residential and commercial real estate transactions, and handling related litigation. Mr. Lyons also has experience in the drafting of wills and trust instruments, probate, guardianships, and litigation in the probate courts.
Mr. Lyons is registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution as a general mediator and a domestic relations mediator. He is also certified as a domestic relations mediator with the American Association of Christian Counselors and is certified as a collaborative law attorney. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Association for Conflict Resolution, the American Association of Christian Counselors and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution.
Mr. Lyons has mediated several hundred cases, involving the following areas of dispute: personal injury, automobile property damage, fire damage, construction, contracts, real estate titles, real estate contracts, property tax appeals, partnership and shareholder relations, landlord-tenant, employment relations including EEOC claims, employment contracts, divorce, child custody, modification of child support, modification of visitation rights, contested wills, and guardianships.
Mr. Lyons is an elder at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, where he has taught an adult Bible class for over 20 years. He has been married to Rachel Watson Lyons for 39 years. They have three married children and nine grandchildren.
